Whytbank Tower

Whytbank Tower in the Scottish Borders is one of my favourite finds of all time. It’s a 16th century tower, strong too as it needed to fend off reivers, yet it’s the grounds that awed me. Whytbank has some of the best preserved and most extensive remains of outbuildings (kitchens, a hall, workshops, etc) I’ve seen at any Scottish castle, full stop. The terraced garden looked magical in the snow, too.

The Pringle family built it, and are attempting to restore it to this day. Nestled in a patch of woods in the high moors of the Borders, Whytbank is truly a treasure.
