Strome Castle

A sentinel on the shore of Loch Carron, Strome Castle commands both beautiful views and a strong position. Details are few and far between for Strome and many of the castles in the Highlands, but it was first recorded in 1472 as held by the MacDonald Lords of the Isles. It got caught up in the fierce MacDonald-Mackenzie rivalry, with the latter blowing up the castle with gunpower following a siege in 1602. Sometimes when it comes to castles less is more, and the simplicity of Strome allows imaginations to run wild.
