Castle Stalker

On a small tidal island in Loch Laich on the elemental coast of Argyll stands Castle Stalker. Meaning ‘Hunter’ or ‘Falconer’, Stalker was begun by the MacDougall Lords of Lorn whose blood ran back to Somerled. It has a sanguine history, with one 16th century notable bearing the name ‘Donald of the Hammers’. My kind of castle! It passed into Stewart then Campbell hands and withstood Bonnie Prince Charlie’s cannons during the 1745-46 Jacobite Rising. You might know it best, though, as Castle Aaaargh! in Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
